Kate Davies

Kate Davies PhD Student CAH research

Kate has been a children's nurse since 1994, working in general paediatrics, paediatric ICU and neuroscience before specialising in paediatric endocrinology in 2000.

 

She has focused on advancing her education by studying for a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, an MSc in Occupational Psychology and an MSc in Professional Healthcare Research, as well as advancing clinical skills including Non-Medical Prescribing.

 

She is a qualified Children’s Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and a Nurse Teacher.

Kate has always been passionate about educating patients and families, and staff and students, and started at London South Bank University, London, UK, the UK leading University in training children’s nurses, as a Senior Lecturer in Children’s Nursing in September 2015.

 

She launched the new BSc/MSc module ‘Principles of care for the child and young person in endocrinology’ in January 2017. She now leads the Non Medical Prescribing programme at LSBU, training nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals how to prescribe within the scope of their governing bodies. She is now Associate Professor in Paediatric Prescribing and Endocrinology.

Kate is well-known internationally within paediatric endocrinology and continues to present and publish widely.

 

She has sub-specialised in growth and puberty, neuro-endocrine late effects of childhood brain tumours, adrenal disorders and differences of sex development. 

 

Kate is now studying for a PhD in Nursing at London South Bank University. The current project, focusing on monitoring in young people with congenital adrenal hyperplasia, is part of this.

Professor Susie Sykes

London South Bank University (LSBU)

Susie is the lead supervisor for this PhD project. Susie Sykes is Professor of Public Health and Health Promotion at London South Bank University. She leads the NIHR funded PHIRST South Bank Centre which undertakes evaluations of locally led Public Health Interventions. Her research interests include health literacy, community development and public health workforce development.

 

She also leads PHET@LSBU (Public Health Education and Training) which delivers training and education to public health practitioners working towards registration on the UKPHR voluntary register.

Professor Li Chan
 
Professor of Molecular Endocrinology and Metabolism – Queen Mary University of London (QMUL)
Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology – Barts Health NHS Trust

Li is the 2nd supervisor for this project and is Professor of Molecular Endocrinology and Metabolism at QMUL, and an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist.

 

Li has a special interest in the adrenal glands, and has a great deal of experience in treating children and young people with CAH.

Dr Tamzin Dawson 
 
Head of Division Children’s and Community Nursing,
London South Bank University

Tamzin is the 3rd supervisor for this project. She is a Senior Lecturer in Children’s Nursing and is currently the Head of Division for Children’s and Community Nursing at London South Bank University.

 

Tamzin’s clinical background is Paediatric Intensive care in which she has held senior positions in clinical practice and within clinical education. Her research interests are within paediatric nursing and nurse education.
